Matt Habrowski
Captain of the Force U14 Boys

Matt Habrowski, captain of the Force U14 Boys, experienced quite an incredible summer of training and playing soccer at an extraordinarily high-level. In August, 2007, Matt was selected as one of 60 pool players to the State of Michigan 1995 Olympic Development Program (ODP) team. After four, winter 2008 weekend training sessions at the nearby Ultimate Soccer Arena, Matt saw his efforts pay off with a selection to the 24-member Michigan 1995 ODP team. This selection earned him a trip to the Region II ODP summer camp in Rockford, IL. Prior to camp, a number of Michigan ODP team training sessions were held during May & June, 2008, to prepare the boys for the rigors of Region II camp.

Twelve states' ODP teams from throughout the upper Midwest participated in the Region II ODP camp in mid-July, 2008. While the overall skill level of the 200+ participants at this camp rose quite a few levels from his own state team, Matt had every confidence that his abilities would carry him. During the week at Region II camp, Matt was called up to "pool" play twice. Getting called up to "pool" play once is quite an accomplishment. Well, Matt's work ethic paid off, and by week's end, he was notified of his selection to the 36-member Region II ODP pool roster!

After a few days of rest at home, the Region II pool team reconvened in Rockford for another week of camp with the intent of trimming the squad to 24. Matt must have made quite an impression on the coaches during this hot, humid, third-week of July -- he made the cut and was named to the 24-man Region II ODP team.

Selection to the Region II team afforded Matt the opportunity to travel to Boston, Massachusetts, to attend the U14 Boys National Identification camp in early August, 2008. This camp's participants included each of the four Region's ODP teams. Approximately 125 of the best 14 year old players in the country trained and played with national and collegiate-level coaches in close observance. To get to this level is an incredible accomplishment. Just as at the earlier camps, Matt gave it his all during this camp, learning every 'touch' of the way.

At this point, Matt may be contacted to attend future U14 National events whether they be camps or tournaments. He will be attending a US Soccer Regional team tournament with the Region II team in Orlando, FL the weekend following Thanksgiving, 2008.

Matt is looking forward to continuing his ongoing state ODP training in the winter months ahead.

Force U19 Girls

The girls had a tough mountain to climb to try and repeat as Regional champs because they got placed into the group of death. In game one the Force tied Toro Magic from Nebraska 1-1 with Kelsey Tait scoring the only goal for the Force. In game two the Force beat old rivals Ohio Premier by a 2-1 scoreline with goals coming from Kelli Walker and Laura Heyboer. In their third group game the Force beat a very good Carmel team 3-1 with goals coming from Lindsey Haroutunian, Laura Heyboer and Amanda Bowery. The semi-finals would see Force match up with their longest rivals Eclipse. The Eclipse were made even stronger with the addition of several Michigan Hawks players, however, Force won 1-0 with Jackie Carron scoring on a corner to put Force into the Regional Finals for the 3rd year in a row. In the Final the conditions were awful with torrential rain and a muddy field. The Force opened the scoring through Jackie Carron but KC College from Kansas pulled one back on the stroke of half-time. In the second half it was Jackie Carron again putting Force ahead and Stephanie Crawford rounded out the scoring to ensure Force successfully defended their Regional title with a 3-1 win. The next step for the girls is to rest, then start up training again for the National Championships Final Four In Little Rock, Arkansas on July 22-27. This will be chance for the Girls to be the first Michigan team ever to win back to back national championships.

Boys U18 Force FC

U18 BOYS 2008 STATE CUP CHAMPS

The boys, having lost only one game all season embarked on their first regional championships. The tournament consisted of four groups of four teams. 14 of the 16 teams had won their state cups and the other two where regional wild card entries. In game one the boys came from behind to beat Sagota from Ohio North 2-1. Goals coming from Peter Jebson and Zach Wyzgoski. Game two put the Force up against the MRL Premier league winners, Indy Burn. Force had previously handed Burn their only loss of the season in a 1-0 win at Indianapolis in April. The replay would prove to be a similar game with Force going up 1-0 earlier in the game through a wonder shot from Drew Harness. Unfortunately, Force let the lead slip but ended with a 1-1 draw. In their final game the Force lost 2-1 to Shattuck St.Mary's of Minnesota. This was a great team who actually went on to win the tournament. They will go to the National final four in Arkansas. This would be the last time that the Boys would ever play for the Force, a very sad moment, but all the same an end to a wonderful era for the boys and the club.
